Instructional Design
Advanced
Universal Design Learning (UDL) offers a teaching approach to accommodate the needs of students. Learning theory involves clear instructions, reflective practice, effective feedback, and engaging activities. Instructors using UDL help students learn independently, use a student's existing knowledge, and create inclusiveness.
Facilitating this orientation course for over ten years, I used the UDL design, development, and delivery principles to enable good course design. As part of the design principle, I ask my participants to complete a survey of their opinion of the course. Let me share a few of the student's comments.
“As a non-traditional student returning to school, I do not see why this course is not mandatory for orientation to online learning.”
“I don't think it could use any changes - I think it is very easy to navigate.”
“I think the course overall was very interactive and educational. It provided just the right amount of information without being too detailed and boring. Had a good mix of media and interactive assignments.”

The workshop titles offered included but were not limited to D2L Boot Camp, D2L Interactive Rubric Workshop, Researched Evidence for Pedagogical Use of Video and Resources, and others.
Creating Accessibility Awareness multimedia is one of the best ways to help people understand why it is important to design materials for accessibility. A recent example I designed and created is titled Barriers to Accessibility.
The Office 365 products, online and desktop versions, and Articulate Rise are tools that are part of my tool kit in creating professional development to create training materials such as:
Creating instructional videos can benefit students' learning. Screencast-O-Matic is an excellent platform for making short videos. Email your Professor via the D2L Brightspace Classlist.
